Announcement for the Republican Nomination for President
For Immediate Release
Sunday, January 20, 2019
Linwood, NC – At 12 Noon Sunday, on the anniversary of the very day Donald Trump took office as president, former Mayor Keith Davenport, appeared in front of the White House and announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2020.
Below find the complete text of his speech:
Today, standing in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I am making the most consequential speech of my lifetime.
The office of President of the United States is much bigger than any one individual, an extraordinarily high honor and mantle. I might take it a step further and say that it is in fact, a calling, an obligation which requires a deep commitment to the principles of personal service and human sacrifice. Indeed, the President of the United States is our nation’s Public Servant in Chief.
President Abraham Lincoln once said, and I quote, “the dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty and we must rise with the occasion. We must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves and then we shall save our country.”
Those immortal words were spoken during times much like these, with a nation that was deeply divided over dogmas, about ideals, with respect to principals and even political philosophies.
Our nation, though still one, has been infected with doctrines of separatism, principles that deeply contradict the very essence… the soul of America.
Our nation has transitioned much like the rocking of an old ship on the seas, swaying drunkenly from side to side.
In spite of all this, I am firmly convinced that no storm last forever. No obstacle is too great to overcome if we first understand one thing above any other. There is much more that unites us than what divides us.
The flag of the United States is composed of three colors knit together to form a single unit. The union of the flag demonstrates the merging of varying ideals, philosophies, skin colors, cultures and even religious world views.
When last we visited these same shores, it took the Party of Lincoln, to bring healing to our nation and I suspect that today, it will take leaders who understand those selfsame principles, to again rescue our already great nation.
Our mission and my agenda is not to further divide but to be an instrument of healing. Our focus is not on the error but on the answer. Our agenda is not political posturing but personal commitment to service for all Americans.
I resolve that we will change the face of the Republican Party and we will again create an atmosphere of hope in America. From day number one, we will send a clear message that ours is an agenda of service to all Americans.
We are not just offering an olive leaf. We are delivering a dove.
That is the reason today I am announcing my intention to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States of America.
I want to personally send a message to the forgotten ones in our nation that we are committed to service with excellence. I want to send a clear message to the status quo that it’s time to get busy with America’s business.
Thank you. God bless you and God bless these United States of America!
